Preseason Rankings Of Illinois Top 10 High School Teams

Chicago Hoops
Updated October 20, 2003

1. Peoria Central
The defending state champions return 6-6 point guard Shaun Livingston, 6-1 guard Brandon Lee, 6-7 power forward DeAndre Miranda and add 6-6 forward Dustin Warfield, a transfer from Peoria Richwoods. Central is big, athletic, deep and very strong defensively.

2. Chicago Farragut
The Admirals return 6-7 power forward Ollie Bailey, 6-2 guard Chris Singletary, 6-3 swingman Emmanuel Little, 5-9 point guard Rodnell Harris and 6-5 power forward Johnny Logan. Big, talented and could go as many as 10 players deep. Prior to forfeiting games for using an ineligible player, Farragut gave Chicago Crane and the #1 team in Wisconsin their only regular season losses last year.

3. West Aurora
The Black Hawks return 6-9 power forward Shaun Pruitt, 6-4 point guard Justin Cerasoli, 6-2 guard Jaeh Thomas and 6-2 forward Travis Marion. Lots of big time talent. Should have a chip on their shoulder from last year's loss to Downers Grove South in the state tournament.

4. Homewood-Flossmoor
The Vikings bring back 6-7 guard/forward Julian Wright, 6-6 power forward Cyrus Tate, 5-11 guard Excell Hardy and 6-5 small forward Brian Nussbaum. Everybody is back from a year ago. Could be the best team in south suburbs.

5. Chicago Julian
The Jaguars bring back 6-2 point guard Brandon Ewing, 6-5 small forward J.J. Watson, 6-8 center Lorenzo Eckford and 6-5 power forward Luther Andrews. Big, athletic and ready to run for four quarters. Came on real strong at the end of last year.

6. Chicago Von Steuben
Von Steuben returns 6-1 point guard Angel Santiago, 6-4 forward Demetrius Evans, 6-2 forward Byron Johnson and 6-5 guard/forward Ryne Hamblet. Very strong tournament run last season. Most of the major players return from last year's Elite Eight squad.

7. Thornton
Thornton returns 6-5 forward Joevan Catron, 6-3 shooting guard Robert Bush, 6-2 shooting guard Tyranne Mitchell, 6-4 forward Donnell Lyons and 6-1 point guard Brandon Dagans. A very dangerous team. Very talented. Came on strong at the end of last year.

8. Pekin
Pekin returns 6-4 shooting guard Jeremy Crouch, 6-9 center Matt Hagen, 6-4 forward Kyle Myers and add 6-2 guard Jordan Morris. Nice all-around talent pool figures to make Pekin very tough to handle.

9. Niles West
Niles West returns 5-11 point guard Jarryd Loyd, 6-3 shooting guard Sead Odzic, 6-3 forward Victor Colon and 6-2 guard Jackie Hunt. Ready to capitalize on last year's success. The Loyd and Odzic backcourt duo is one of the best in the state.

10. Belleville West
The Maroons bring back 6-2 point guard J.B. Jones and 6-4 center Sean McPeak. They add 6-4 shooting guard Xavier Price. Very strong defensive team. Price is a major addition to a team that advanced to last year's Elite Eight.
