16-U Old Gold Looking To Cap Off A Stellar Travel Team Circuit Run With Strong Showings At The 16-U AAU SuperShowcase And National Tournament In Orlando, Florida
16-U Chicago Old Gold is looking to cap off a strong run on the spring and summer travel team circuit by making some big noise at the SuperShowcase, and the 16-U AAU National Tournament in Orlando, Florida.
Old Gold started the year with a Final Four finish at the 16-U state AAU tournament, and then proceeded to win their pool at the King James Shooting Stars Classic in Akron, Ohio. The team went to the Adidas May Classic, forfeited their first game due to scheduling conflicts, and then reeled off 7 straight wins to capture the Bronze Division title.
Old Gold won the 16-U division at the Old Gold Run N' Slam Classic in June. The team has been especially strong during the month of July with an Elite 8 run at the Hoosier Shootout, and a run to the Final Four of the Chicago Summer Classic before losing a tough game to the Mac Irvin Fire, who went on to win the title.
Antonio Wiltz of Old Gold notes that the strength of the 16-U team has been their three guard rotation of Pat Miller (Chicago St. Rita), Hollis Hill (Chicago Vocational) and Joe Bulliner (Chicago St. Ignatius). A rotation that Wiltz will gladly match against any in the state. John Morgan (Gary Andrean) has emerged as the best shooter on the team. Wiltz feels that this team is the best shooting team that he has had in the nine-year history of the program.
6'4" Aaron Williams (Chicago Vocational) may well be MVP of the team with his versatility, and his ability to play strong inside against bigger opponents. 6'2" Christian Matthews (Chicago Marist) gives the team great energy with his athleticism.
6'6" Aaron Samuels (Chicago De La Salle) and 6'7" Shawn Seymour (Bradley) are a pair of bigs with great upside potential, and have the future of the team looking very bright for next year. Marvin Pittman (Chicago Vocational), Murray Hayes (Seton Academy) and Ryan Cunningham (Chicago Vocational) also have made big contributions to the success of the team.
Head coach Earl McKay, Wiltz and 16-U Old Gold will now look to close out a strong season on a high note with a pair of strong showings at the 16-U SuperShowcase, and then at the 16-U AAU National Tournament in Orlando, Florida.
