The 16-U Illinois Warriors Knock Off The Alabama Challenge To Win The Title At The Nike Memorial Day Classic In Nashville, Tennessee
Head coach Jason Kent's 16-U Illinois Warriors avenged an earlier defeat in pool play, and knocked off a strong Alabama Challenge team 76-70 to win the 16-U title at the prestigious Nike Memorial Day Classic in Nashville, Tennessee.
In the title game, Wisconsin-bound Vander Blue (Madison Memorial) led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Johnson (Chicago Whitney Young) backed him up with 21 points. Class of 2010 Neuqua Valley star Dwayne Evans scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Warriors went 2-1 in pool play with their lone defeat coming to the Alabama Challenge. They then proceeded to knock off the St. Louis Eagles in the Elite 8, and the New York Gauchos in the Final Four ahead of winning the title.
