4A State Finals: Chicago Simeon Vs. O'Fallon and Chicago Whitney Young Vs. Waukegan With The Winners Playing For The IHSA Class 4A State Championship On Saturday Night Chicago Hoops March 17, 2010 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Chicago Simeon will play O'Fallon in one semifinal, and Chicago Whitney Young will take on Waukegan in the other as the IHSA Class 4A state tournament is now down to just four teams, with the 4A state champion set to be crowned on Saturday night. Simeon won a double-overtime thriller over Benet Academy to advance with Brandon Spearman (Dayton) coming through with a three-pointer to send the game into overtime, and a pair of free throws to send the game to a second overtime session. O'Fallon advanced with an overtime win of their own over Joliet Township with Charles Joy and Roosevelt Jones scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. The Simeon/O'Fallon game will be a rematch of the IHSA Class AA state title game from 2007 which was won by Derrick Rose, and Simeon. Waukegan and Whitney Young will meet in the other semifinal in a rematch of the Class 4A state title game from last year. Jereme Richmond (Illinois) scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to power Waukegan past Bartlett to win the Elgin SuperSectional. Whitney Young defeated Maine South to advance with Ahmad Starks (Oregon State) scoring 22 points to power the victory. The Simeon/O'Fallon game will tip-off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night with the Whitney Young/Waukegan game following at 8:15 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday night for the IHSA Class 4A state championship. All of the games will be played at Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois. |
