Former Winnebago high school star Devan Bawinkel has decided to transfer from West Virginia University. As a high school senior, Bawinkel finished fourth in the voting for the Illinois Mr. Basketball Award, and ranked as one of the top Class of 2006 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Bawinkel, a 6-5 guard, is a highly versatile player who brings size and an ability to play multiple positions on the basketball court. This past season as a freshman at West Virginia, Bawinkel played in 20 games averaging just under 10 minutes per contest. Bawinkel missed 10 games during the second half of the season with a broken hand.

Bawinkel, who is considering all of his collegiate options including Division I, and junior college, has three years of eligibility remaining.

Earlier this year, Bob Huggins took the reigns as head coach at West Virginia.
