Sports Illustrated has already come out with a preseason ranking of college basketball tams for next year. Chris Lowery's Southern Illinois Salukis are ranked #10 in SI's early preseason ranking of teams for next year. Former Homewood-Flossmoor star Julian Wright and Chicago Crane's Sherron Collins are mentioned as primary reasons why Kansas is expected to be a Top 5 team nationally, and contend for a national championship.

If you are a college basketball program in need of a Class of 2006 shooting guard, 6-3 Brandon Williams of Thornton Fractional North is still on the board. Williams, a full qualifier, is strong, athletic and shoots with range out beyond the three-point arc. He was also one of the key performers on last year's Chicago Ferrari team that won the 17-U AAU National Championship.

Very quietly, John Logan Community College assistant coach Gerad Good has developed a reputation as one of the bright young stars in the junior college coaching ranks.

Neuqua Valley's Jon Rice, a 6-0 guard who ranks among the top Class of 2007 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois, put on quite a show in the semifinal round of the Swish and Dish Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin last weekend. Rice scored 28 points on just nine field goal attempts from the floor. In the game, Rice knocked down 7 out of 8 of his attempts from beyond the three-point arc. Iowa State, Nebraska and Butler are among the schools expected in to see Rice this week.

Ohio State is now actively canvassing the state of Illinois for players. They have picked up on the trail of Class of 2007 St. Joseph High School stars Evan Turner and Demetri McCamey. They are also actively looking at the Illinois Class of 2008, a class which is loaded with a number of high-major talents.

Are you a junior college looking for a point guard who can step in, and be an immediate difference maker? If you are, then you need to be recruiting 6-1 Demetrius Davis. Davis, a Class of 2005 prospect, sat out this past season after starring alongside of Patrick Beverly at Chicago Marshall as a high school senior. Davis is strong, quick, athletic and capable of getting to the rim and finishing on just about anyone. He is a player capable of competing at the highest level of junior college basketball. Davis was outstanding at the 2006 Midwest Unsigned Senior Showcase on Sunday.

6-3 Pat Morris of Hinsdale Central is the best kept Class of 2006 secret in the state of Illinois. Morris, a shooting guard, can flat out play!

Illinois State University assistant mens basketball coach Danyale Robinson has emerged as a force to be reckoned with on the recruiting trail. Big things are expected from the Redbirds next year in part due to the arrival of Osiris Eldridge of Chicago Phillips, one of the top incoming Missouri Valley Conference recruits.

Luther Topps, one of the coaches from AAU powerhouse MeanStreets Express, tells us that he would mind adding a 6-10 or 7-0 center to the mix for his squad this summer, and that it doesn't matter what state that the player is from. Express is looking to make a statement nationally this spring and summer. Topps also tells us that Express, which features 6-4 guard Derrick Rose from Class AA state champion Chicago Simeon, is scheduled to clash with O.J. Mayo and the D-1 Greyhounds later this month at the King James Tournament in Ohio.

Later today, we will be releasing the ChicagoHoops.com Class of 2010 Prospect Rankings. DeAndre McCamey, younger brother of St. Joseph star Demetri McCamey, will be checking in with the #1 ranking. The Illinois Class of 2010 is loaded folks!
