Lafayette of the Patriot League is continuing to keep close tabs on Class of 2007 Lake Park star Mike Balletto. Balletto ranks as one of the top uncommitted Class of 2007 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Richmond has been out to see Class of 2007 St. Laurence star Thomas Kopko, and hopes to bring him in for an Official Visit. A standout both on and off of the basketball court, Kopko ranks #1 in his class academically as well.

The University of California Santa Barbara is continuing to pursue former Homewood-Flossmoor and current John Logan College star D.J. Posley. Miami (Ohio) also remains squarely in the mix for Posley.

Keep an eye out for 6-6 Class of 2009 Putnam County star Anthony Ahlers. Ahlers currently plays alongside of 6-8 Southern Illinois-bound post Carlton Fay.

Former Thornton High School basketball star Brandan Dagans, now a sophomore at Lewis University, has been tabbed as a 1st Team All Great Lakes Valley Conference selection. Dagans is the leading scorer in the GLVC with an average of 18.7 points per game, and ranks 10th in assists with an average of 3.81 assists per game.

Former Chicago Julian star Brandon Ewing, now a sophomore at the University of Wyoming, is just 23 points shy of 1,000 career points, and should become the first player in school history to record 1,000 points after his sophomore season. Ewing is currently averaging 20.3 points per game, and was recently tabbed as a 2nd Team All-Region 13 pick by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Mentioning Brandon Dagans and Brandon Ewing has jogged my memory a bit. Dagans, Ewing, Jerel McNeal (Marquette), Maurice Acker (Marquette), Mike Robinson (Eastern Illinois) and Joevan Catron (Oregon) all teamed together three years ago on the MeanStreets 17-U squad. McNeal is one of the top sophomores in the country, Acker was Freshman of the Year in the Mid-American Conference at Ball State last year, Robinson was Freshman of the Year in the Ohio Valley Conference last year, and Catron is making solid contributions as a freshman for nationally-ranked Oregon.

The starting backcourt for the Rising Stars 17-U team had a good week on the hardwood. DePaul-bound Cully Payne scored 34 points to lead Burlington Central past Sycamore. Meanwhile, Chris Wroblewski scored 29 points to lead Highland Park to a win over Glenbrook South. 6-5 Dan Schouten of Downers Grove South is being recruited by a number of schools including Augustana, Illinois Wesleyan, Washington (MO) and Division II St. Michael's in the state of Vermont.
