Player Diary: Bryan Mullins of Downers Grove South High School
Bryan Mullins Special to ChicagoHoops.com June 29, 2004 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Bryan Mullins of Downers Grove South High School brings the first installment of his Player Diary to ChicagoHoops.com. Bryan ranks among the top Class of 2005 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois. This summer, Bryan will bring us a special look inside his workout routine, his recruitment, and his life on and off of the basketball court. Hey, What's up everybody? I am Bryan Mullins, the point guard for Downers Grove South High School, and the Illinois Wolves. The month of June has been very busy for me. I have spent this whole month with my high school team. During June, I worked the little kids camp for two hours in the morning, then I would have my team camp for two hours after that. After camp I usually go workout. I usually lift on my own doing free weights. I am trying to increase my upper body strength. I also work out at Orthosport to increase both my quickness and jumping ability. At Orthosport, I do a lot of drills with ankle weights, and by putting bands around me in an effort to improve my explosiveness. Those drills should improve my defensive capabilities, as well as my ability to get up for rebounds. I think it has really helped me on the basketball court. After working out, if I don't have two or three games scheduled with my high school, I usually go and shoot jumpers. I like not having games at night because I believe I need to shoot on my own a lot more than I need to play. I take about 500 shots every time I shoot. Sometimes I am able to use the Shooting Gun at our school. The Shooting Gun is great because of the number of shots that I can get up in a small amount of time. My high school team is looking pretty good for the most part. We are not very big, but we have a lot of guards who are pretty good. I like playing with Downers Grove South a lot in the summer because it gives me a chance to work on my game. I am asked to score more, and I definetely think it will help my confidence on the basketball court for the month of July. We just finished playing in the Willowbrook Shootout. It is a great tournament with great competition. We played nine games, and ended up losing to St. Joseph's in the semifinals. They presented some bad matchups for us, but we still played them very close. I played pretty good this weekend, and as a team we got better each game. We still have about 25 games left this summer for high school, but I will miss most of them because of AAU. Hopefully, we will enjoy the same amount of success as we have had the last two seasons. I can't wait to start playing with the Illinois Wolves again. This July is going to be very busy. July 6 I head off to the ABCD Camp, which I am definitely looking forward to. July 13 The Wolves play in the Best of Midwest in Indianapolis, Indiana. To end the month we go on a 10 day trip from Las Vegas to Florida. In Las Vegas we are playing in the Reebok Big Time Tournament, and then straight from there we go to AAU Nationals. Hopefully, we will win all the tournaments. Personally, I just want to play good the whole month of July, and help my team win every game we play in. Until Next Time, Bryan Mullins Downers Grove South High School |
