Quan Connor And Illinois-Bound Jereme Richmond Combine To Score 51 Points As Waukegan Tops Deerfield 93-87 In Overtime In The Central Suburban League Championship Game

Quan Connor and Jereme Richmond (Illinois) combined to score 51 points to fuel Central Suburban North champion Waukegan to a 93-87 overtime win over Central Suburban South champion Deerfield High School in the Central Suburban League championship game.

Waukegan led by as many as 17 points in the first half, and still maintained a double-digit lead late in the fourth quarter before Deerfield rallied. 6'8" Duje Dukan drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the crowd into a frenzy, and the game into overtime.

Waukegan recovered and took control in overtime with Mike Springs and Aaron Johnson providing the firepower as Waukegan pulled away to a 93-87 win.

Quan Connor led the way for Waukegan with 28 points, including 6 three-point baskets. Richmond backed him up with 23 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Akeem Springs added 14 points for Waukegan. Deerfield was led by Oren Schwartz who scored 21 points, and Max Burgess and Adam Rhum who each scored 19 points. Dukan added 15 points, and Ryan Davis scored 14 points for Deerfield.

Deerfield will open the IHSA Class 4A state tournament on Tuesday night against the Highland Park/Carmel winner. Waukegan will also open the IHSA Class 4A state tournament on Tuesday night, and will face the Palatine/Rolling Meadows winner.
