"I Just Want To Do What I Do Best Again And That Is Win!" Former Chicago Marshall Star Darius Smith Transfers From Connecticut To Junior College Powerhouse College Of Southern Idaho Cavan Walsh August 27, 2010 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Former Chicago Marshall star Darius Smith, who is transferring from the University of Connecticut, has signed to play with junior college powerhouse College of Southern Idaho. Smith ranked among the top Class of 2009 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois as a high school senior. Smith, a 6'1" point guard, has long been known for his ability to take command of games on both ends of the floor. Smith was a four-year starter at Marshall, and let the team to the 2008 IHSA Class 3A state championship. Smith was a three-time All-City and All-State selection during his time at Marshall. Several factors played into Smith's decision. “You know for my decision I had a couple of factors that I based it on. I picked the right school that fit for me with me going the junior college route. The coaches brought me along and told me how I can help them and the team, and how they can help me out. Throughout the whole process the coaches at Southern Idaho kept it straight forward and to the point. They have been with me since they found out I was leaving UConn. They showed me love and that they cared for me,” said Smith. “This is a year for me to get my game back in top form. I was limited as far as what I got to show with my game last year, but I’m going to use this milestone and elevate my game and show everyone what I can do on the basketball floor.” “My goal is to put my name back out there and on the market. Then I want to get into a great school. Also, of course I want to go as far as I can on the JUCO level and win the national championship. I want to meet some new players and just win. I just want to do what I do best again and that is win!” Former Chicago North Lawndale star Paul Bunch, a 6'10" center, has also signed with the College of Southern Idaho. |
