Delray Brooks To Conduct Intense Basketball Training Sessions At The Auditorium In Homewood
Chicago Hoops September 4, 2005 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Delray Brooks, who was voted the #1 high school player in the country by both ESPN and USA Today in 1984, will be conducting basketball training sessions for 9th thru 12th grades at the Auditorium in Homewood, Illinois. Brooks, who also was voted Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1984, played for both Bob Knight and Rick Pitino in college. The 9th thru 12th grade session will begin on Sunday, September 18, and will run for two weeks. The sessions will be held three times per week. Sessions will be intense, and will stress the fundamentals of the game to get participants prepared for the upcoming season. Sessions will be limited to 20 players per group. Sessions will run on Sunday's from 2:00pm-4:00pm and also 4:00pm-6:00pm. On Monday's and Thursday's, sessions will run from 5:00pm-7:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm. The cost is $200. There will be a 2nd two week session that will begin on Sunday, October 2. Sessions will also be available for 5th thru 8th grades as well. Delray Brooks Bio Delray Brooks a native of Michigan City, IN was crowned the number one high school basketball player in the country by ESPN and USA TODAY in 1984. He went on to play for two of the most respected coaches in college basketball today. Bob Knight who was at Indiana University and Rick Pitino who was then at Providence College. In 1987 one season after transferring from Indiana to Providence he was part of the starting backcourt along with Billy Donavan who is now the who is now the head coach at the University of Florida, that led Providence to the Final Four. It was also the year that Indiana went on to win the championship. Delray went on to try out for the Knicks and played two years overseas in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Italy. He then went on to work at one of the top college basketball programs in the country, the University of Kentucky. He spent five years as an assistant under Coach Rick Pitino. In his five years Kentucky went to three Final Fours and won the National Championship in 1996 with two natives of Chicago, Antoine Walker and Nazr Mohammed both of which were Delray’s recruits. Other recruits include Derek Anderson (Houston Rockets) Ron Mercer (New Jersey Nets) Jamaal Maglorie (New Orleans Hornets) Walter Mcarty (Phoenix Suns) Tony Delk (Atlanta Hawks) Scott Padgett (Houston Rockets) and Mark Pope. Absent from the list is Jamal Mashburn he was already at Kentucky when Delray arrived. There have been ten players that have been recruited and coached by Delray Brooks that are currently in the NBA or have played in the NBA. |
