Class of 2009 Peoria Central star D.J. Richardson of the Illinois Warriors put himself in position to make a signficant move forward in terms of his status nationally as a prospect after a blistering series of performances at the Nike Peach Jam.

Richardson, a 6'3" guard, put up a host of strong performances at Peach Jam, and led the Warriors to a 5-0 record, before having to return home for summer school. The Warriors lost to California Supreme 92-91 without Richardson in the quarterfinals of the event.

Richardson averaged better than 21 points per game for the event. His efforts included a 30-point effort against the Rising Stars, and a big time game against John Wall, who is the #1-ranked 2009 prospect nationally by one service.

Richardson was equally menacing defensively, as he picked up opponents and guarded for 94 feet. In tandem with Darius Smith (Chicago Marshall), Richardson was stellar on both ends.

One astute observer noted that Richardson "went nuts", and "put on a show". Now the buzz nationally is that Richardson has now played himself into Top 25 status, and is now front and center as a McDonald's All-American candidate.

The University of Illinois coaching staff has to be all smiles with Richardson inserting himself into the mix for the 2009 McDonald's game, and a pair of 2010 studs in Jereme Richmond (Waukegan) and Crandall Head both considered strong candidates for the 2010 McDonalds contest.

Richardson, and his Illinois Warriors teammates will next compete at the SuperShowcase in Orlando, Florida next week.
