6'8" Former Chicago Whitney Young Star Dwight McCombs Of Moraine Valley Community College Is Continuing To Rack Up Scholarship Offers, And Beginning To Line Up Campus Visits Brian Stinnette September 25, 2009 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Former Chicago Whitney Young star Dwight McCombs of Moraine Valley Community College is racking up scholarship offers and lining up campus visits. McCombs, a Miami (OH) transfer, rates as one of the top junior college prospects in the country. McCombs, a 6'8" power forward with a long wingspan, is a highly versatile frontcourt talent who excels with his rebounding and shot-blocking skills inside. McCombs showed very well this past July both at the Top 100 Juco Camp in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and also at the Midwest Juco Exposure Showcase in Merrillville, Indiana. Moraine Valley head coach Dedrick Shannon noted that McCombs already has scholarship offers on the table from California-Riverside, California-Northridge, Texas-El Paso, Middle Tennessee State and also Florida Gulf Coast. Shannon also noted that DePaul was in earlier this week to check out McCombs as well. McCombs is scheduled to visit California-Riverside this coming weekend, and will likely visit California-Northridge in October as he continues to work his way through the recruiting process. Last season, Moraine Valley finished off the year with a 28-5 record while holding down the #12 spot in the NJCAA Division II rankings. This year, expectations are even higher with McCombs anchoring the frontcourt, and Krys Randolph (Chicago Brother Rice), Moraine's leading scorer last year, returning in the backcourt. |
