6-7 sophomore Dwight McCombs brings the first installment of his Player Diary to ChicagoHoops.com. Dwight ranks as one of the better Class of 2007 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois. Follow along as Dwight gives us an inside look at his life both on and off of the basketball court.

What's up everybody! This is Dwight McCombs, I am a 6-7 forward at Chicago Whitney Young High School. I play on the AAU basketball circuit with MeanStreets Express.

Right now, my mid-range skills, and my post moves are the strongest parts of my game. I am working hard to improve my ball-handling, and overall perimeter skills.

Last weekend, I competed at the "Real Deal on the Hill" tournament in Fayetteville, Arkansas with MeanStreets Express. We played hard, and I thought we had a pretty good weekend, but I still wished that we would have won the title.

It's great having Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon) as a teammate. However, we are a team, and each member of the team is just one piece of the puzzle. We play hard as a team! We win as a team. We lose as a team. It is our effort as a team that brings us victories.

This weekend, we will be playing at the Kingwood Classic in Houston, Texas. We will also be playing at the Spiece Run and Slam at the end of April, the St. Louis Eagles Invitational, the Nike Memorial Day Classic in New Orleans, and also the Hoosier Shootout. We will close out the summer in Kansas City at the end of July.

I am really focused right now on trying to take my game to another level. I spend a lot of time in the gym doing shooting and ball-handling drills to improve my skills. I also do a lot of in-and-out moves, and I am always looking to improve on my left hand.

Next year, we are going to surprise some people at Whitney Young. We have a real solid group of guys. We will be very quick, and are going to be looking to make some noise.

When I am not on the basketball court, I focus a lot of my attention on hitting the books. Ideally, I would like to attend a college that has a strong basketball tradition.

That's all that I have for now.

Until Next Time,

Dwight McCombs
