Class of 2012 Chicago Hales Franciscan star Eddie Alcantara burst on the basketball scene in Illinois this July after moving in from New York, and is already rising fast as one of the top Class of 2012 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.
Alcantara, a 6'5" small forward, is a tough and hard-nosed competitor who has the ability to assume a number of different roles on the floor. Alcantara transferred to Hales from powerhouse Rice High School in New York City.
Alcantara has already made a smooth transition to Chicago. “Well, Chicago definitely feels like a second home for me so far. The Chicago style of basketball is straighter to the point. My family in New York thought it might be a great idea for me to stay with my uncle and his wife in Chicago just so I could have that male figure in my life being that my father passed away when I was one-year-old,” said Alcantara.
“My one year at Rice was great. Coach Moe Hicks and Mich were great, they treated me pretty good. They for the most part loved someone who would work hard, and just stay as focused on education as we did in basketball. Hales isn’t much of a change, and I really like the people at my school. There really is never a dull day, my classmates are always cracking jokes about my hometown and me being from New York.”
Alcantara is clear about what he brings to the table as a basketball player. "When I lace my shoes up my team knows that I’m always going to give them my all. I can guard any player from the point guard to the center. I can score in many different ways, I have pretty good range on my shot, and I love to get after it on the defensive end. I’m just a very versatile 6'5" basketball player.”
Alcantara, who played with 16-U Mean Streets in July, will team with Class of 2011 star Aaron Armstead and 2012 star Aaric Armstead on another very strong Hales Franciscan team that should again be one of the top teams in the state of Illinois.
