Class of 2012 Rockford Auburn star Fred Van Vleet of PrymeTyme has picked up a Mid-American Conference scholarship offer from Northern Illinois University. Van Vleet ranks as one of the top Class of 2012 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Van Vleet, a 5'10" point guard, has seen his recruiting stock skyrocket this past year with his strong play on the basketball court. Van Vleet is a superb floor leader who combines a strong handle with stellar floor vision, passing skills and court instincts.

Van Vleet was terrific throughout the spring and summer with PrymeTyme, and performed at a high-level at a number of events including the ChicagoHoops.com Spring Tip-Off Classic, the Nike Spring Showdown in Merrillville, Indiana and also in July at both the Chicago Summer Classic, and the ChicagoHoops.com End of Season Showdown.

Northern Illinois, which just wrapped up hosting Van Vleet on an unofficial visit, is looking to continue locking down top talent in the state of Illinois, and has former Marquette star Todd Townsend (Chicago Morgan Park/New Trier) spearheading their recruiting efforts in the state of Illinois.

Van Vleet, who is also on the radar screens of both Illinois and DePaul, is part of a deep group of point guards in the Illinois Class of 2012 that also includes Jelani Neely (Chicago Simeon), Antonio Drummond (Peoria Central), Aaron Simpson (North Chicago), Keith Carter (Proviso East), C.J. Jones (Chicago Orr), Derrick Randolph (Chicago Whitney Young), Malcolm Hill-Bey (Chicago Mt. Carmel), Tyrone Sherman (Homewood-Flossmoor), Dean Danos (Richards), Landis Farmer (Peoria Manual), Robert Hurd (Chicago Vocational) and Jordan Foster (Oak Par-River Forest) just to name a few.
