Defending IHSA Class 3A State Champion Champaign Centennial Set For Another Major Test On The Basketball Court When They Square Off Against 20-2 Hillcrest On Saturday Night Chicago Hoops February 1, 2010 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Defending IHSA Class 3A state champion Champaign Centennial will get another stiff test this Saturday when they host Eric Gaines (Kent State), Julius "Juice" Brown, and Hillcrest High School on Saturday night. Centennial got back on track with a win over Champaign Central after their 37-game winning streak ended. Centennial currently sports a record of 19-1, and are led by Drake-bound senior Rayvonte Rice, who has established himself as a bona fide Mr. Basketball candidate with his strong play this season. 6'8" Jeff Johnson (Eastern Kentucky) and 6'8" junior Josh Piper both bring size and additional firepower to a Centennial team looking to close out the regular season strong. Hillcrest enters with a record of 20-1, and are led by Kent State-bound senior Eric Gaines, who can impact games on both ends of the floor with his long arms and athleticism. junior guard Julius Brown is a force offensively for a Hillcrest team that features a great deal of balance. Finding a way to contain Rice will be key if Hillcrest is to come home with a victory, while Centennial must find a way to deal with Hillcrest's 1-3-1 zone defense. The game will be played at Champaign Centennial on Saturday night. |
