Former Chicago Westinghouse star Jamarcus Ellis, who was the NJCAA National Player of the Year at Chipola Junior College, and also played for Indiana University, has been selected in the third round of the NBA D-League Draft by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Ellis, who last played for NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City, was the first of a number of former Illinois high school basketball stars who were selected in the draft last night.

Ellis was the Player of the Year in the Chicago Public League in 2004, and was the #2-ranked prospect in the Illinois Class of 2004 behind Peoria Central star Shaun Livingston (Oklahoma City).

Former Homewood-Flossmoor, and UCLA star T.J. Cummings was selected in the fourth round by the Idaho Stampede. Former Barrington and Davidson star Jason Richards was selected in the fourth round by the Utah Flash.

Former Chicago Dunbar and University of Wyoming star Jason Straight was selected in the fifth round by the Dakota Wizards.
