Class of 2012 Champaign Central star Jay Simpson of the Illinois Wolves has given a verbal commitment to play his college basketball in the Big 10 Conference for head coach Matt Painter, and the Purdue Boilermakers. Simpson rates as one of the top Class of 2012 prospects in the state of Illinois.

Simpson, a 6'8" post, excels with his size and high level of skill. He is a player who is able to be highly effective scoring the basketball inside, but also can knock down mid-range jumpers, and is an excellent passer. Simpson saw his recruiting stock explode this spring and summer with the 15-U Illinois Wolves, and will be a Top 5 prospect when the ChicagoHoops.com 2012 rankings are updated next week.

Simpson verballed while taking an unofficial visit to the Purdue campus this weekend with his mom. Simpson has long been on the Purdue radar screen, and has already been on campus multiple times. He was offered a scholarship today on his unofficial, and accepted it.

Simpson becomes the third player Class of 2012 prospect to verbal Matt Painter, and the Purdue Boilermakers. He joins Raphael Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kyle Molock of Dublin, Ohio in Purdue's 2012 class.

Mike Mullins of the Illinois Wolves confirmed Simpson's verbal.
