Grizzlies Close Out The Regular Season Undefeated, 6-8 Jack Cooley And Ron Steward Both Go Off For Huge Scoring Outburts In Rising Stars Fall League Action
The Grizzlies closed out the regular season undefeated, Ron Steward (Zion-Benton) and Jack Cooley (Glenbrook South) each posted huge scoring outputs, and Ben Brust (Mundelein) returned to the court and didn't miss a beat as the regular season concluded at the Rising Stars Fall League presented by ChicagoHoops.com. The playoffs are now set for next week.
Ron Steward (Zion-Benton) scored 33 points to lead the Suns past the Wolves 100-70. Colin Nickerson (Waukegan) scored 20 points and Illinois-bound Jereme Richmond (Waukegan) added 12 points to back up Steward. Brad Johnstin (Richmond-Burton) scored 20 points and Trey Williams (Lakes) added 15 points for the Wolves.
The Grizzlies remained undefeated after posting a 58-53 win over the Raptors. Ryan Shelton (Harlem) led the Grizzlies with 19 points with Andre Henley (Chicago De La Salle) adding 14 points and Andrew Gallow (Oswego) chipping in 12 points. Rodney Clinkscales (Zion-Benton) scord 16 points and Brandon Bibbs added 14 points for the Raptors.
Josh Bartelstein (Highland Park) and Cornell-bound Chris Wroblewski each scored 16 points to lead the Nuggets past the Mavs 64-61. Don Duncan scored 22 points and Kenny Stevenson (Seton Academy) scored 12 points, including 3 clutch buckets late for the Mavs.
Gozie Umeadi (Fenton) scored 15 points, and Oregon-bound Josh Crittle (Chicago Hales Franciscan) and Jon Patino each scored 14 points to lead the Lakers past the Spurs 57-52. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville-bound Kevin Stineman (Stevenson) scored 18 points, and Albany-bound Jake Lindfors (Driscoll) scored 13 points for the Spurs.
A 31-point effort from 6-8 Jack Cooley (Glenbrook South) was not enough as the Clippers defeated the Blazers 91-72. Mike Bumber led the Clippers with 19 points. Meanwhile, Hillsdale-bound John Bagge scored 24 points, and 6-10 sophomore Jordan Threloff added 22 points, and Cory Hrynyk (Bartlett) added 14 points to power the Hornets to a 88-79 victory over the Jazz. Markus Yarbrough (Zion-Benton) scored 22 points to the Jazz who also got 17 points from Andy Timson and 16 points from Tyrone Allen (Homewood-Flossmoor).
Ben Brust (Mundelein) scored 23 points including several long, long thre-point bombs to power the Warriors past the Rockets 78-73. Eric Pagsanjan backed up Brust with 18 points and Kenny Branch (Mundelein) added 17 points for the Warriors. 6-10 sophomore Fred Heldring (New Trier) led the Rockets with 19 points and Alex Rossi (New Trier) added 17 points.
Paul Tometich (Cary-Grove) scored 17 points and Kevin Cole scored 16 points to lead the Kings to a 71-68 win over the Sonics. Eddie Denard (Chicago Foreman) scored 19 points and Kevin Baxter scored 14 points for the Sonics.
In Frosh/Soph action, the Nets continued to sizzle as they topped the Wizards 96-68. Ruben Williams and Taylor Moore each scored 20 points and Sam Savaglio added 19 points to power the Nets. The Wizards were led by Demarko Nash with 20 points, and Aric Dickerson with 19 points.
The Knicks defeated the Hawks 60-51 behind a 23-point effort from Ramsan Yountham. Owen Worthington led the Hawks with 18 points. Stefan Caples scored 18 points and Mike Gabriel added 17 points to lead the Cavs to a thrilling 57-56 victory over the Bucks. Dylan Bartuch scored 17 points and Brian Kost added 10 points for the Bucks.
Craig Burton scored 23 points, Jared Prince scored 15 points and Joseph Hernande scored 11 points to lead the Heat past the Bobcats 71-50. Harris Habibviz led the Bobcats with 14 points. Ben Levine added 13 points and Connor Boehm chipped in 11 points for the Bobcats.
The Magic topped the Pacers 69-66 behind 22 points from Julian Owens, 18 points from Zack Akina and 13 points from Lou Adesida. D'Wayne Brantley led the Pacers with 16 points with Alex Foster and Tim Hill each adding 14 points.
Joseph Bulliner scored 17 points and James Elam added 10 points to lead the Bulls past the Celtics 50-43. Jack Ryan scored 23 points for the Celtics who also got 10 points from John Domanus. Devin Powell scored 20 points and Ryan Sawvell added 19 points to lead the Sixers past the Pistons 72-58. Marquise Thomas scored 12 points and Chris McNichols added 8 points for the Pistons.
