Player Diary: Jimmy Williams of Independence (KS) Community College
Jimmy Williams (Independence Community College) Brian Stinnette Special To ChicagoHoops.com August 24, 2004 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Jimmy Williams of Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas takes us along for a special look inside his life both on and off the basketball court during his freshman year of college. What's up everybody! This is Jimmy Williams, 6-4 freshman guard at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. I played my high school basketball for Lewis Thorpe at Chicago North Lawndale Prep. I am now starting my freshman year of college. I arrived on campus last Sunday, and so far things have been going really well. I wasn't sure at first how I would like the transition from big city life in Chicago, to small town life in Independence, but thus far everything is great. My day begins with a two mile run every morning at 5:30am. I then spend all day in class. At 4:30pm I am in the gym. I am getting ready to start doing my individual workouts, which will focus on the things that I need to work on the most with my game. I will also be doing station drills. Coach Lilly told me that he didn't realize that I was as good of a player as I was until I got down here on campus. I was the only shooting guard that they recruited. This year, I am going to primarily play shooting guard, but I am also going to get minutes at the point. Next year, I expect to log alot of minutes at point guard. Being 6-4, and having the ability to play either guard slot should greatly improve my stock with big time Division I basketball programs. We compete in the Jayhawk Conference, which is one of the toughest Junior College Conferences in the United States. This year, we only have three sophomores, but we have a great freshman class coming in, so I am looking forward to us having a real good year. I was a scorer in high school, but I am making a point to emphasize balancing my game with points, rebounds, assists and tough defense. I want to be a complete basketball player. I can see the difference from high school already....EVERYBODY is big and athletic. Class is going well. I really like the campus a lot. My days are full from the time I wake up, until the time that I go to sleep. I am working so hard that when I lay down at night my body is just sore. Thats good though, because I am here to work hard, and become the best that I can be both on and off of the basketball court. Until Next Time, Jimmy Williams Independence Community College |
