Head Coach Mark Phelps, And Drake University Score A Recruiting Coup, And Land Class Of 2010 Springfield Lanphier Star Karl Madison Of The St. Louis Eagles Cavan Walsh September 9, 2009 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Class of 2010 Springfield Lanphier star Karl Madison of the St. Louis Eagles has given a verbal commitment to play his college basketball for head coach Mark Phelps, and Drake University. Madison ranks as one of the top Class of 2010 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois. Madison, a 5'10" point guard, is a dazzling floor leader who excels both with his scoring, and his ball-distribution skills. Madison recently completed another strong run on the travel team circuit with the St. Louis Eagles, and will is set to become a four-year varsity starter at Lanphier High School. Madison, who took his official visit to Drake this past weekend said, “I really liked the coaching staff and players they welcomed me with open arms, and it was a great fit. I want to become a lawyer and they have a good law school, and if that doesn’t work out they have a great business school. The head coach reminded a lot of my high school coach, and I just felt really comfortable. I just felt I couldn’t miss out on this opportunity as did my parents.” Madison, who is a strong student in the classroom, also said, “I really liked the atmosphere of the school and the campus. The classrooms really got me because they are not going to be a big classes, and I am going to get individual one-on-one attention with 20 kids in a class. Everybody gets more help that way.” Madison, who averaged better than 20 points per game as a junior, was also being recruited by Nevada, DePaul, Northern Iowa, Northwestern and Ball State. Head coach Mark Phelps, Kareem Richardson and Drake University are recruiting the state of Illinois very hard, and are also in hot pursuit of former Rich South star Carlton Guyton of Mineral Area Community College, and Class of 2010 stars Rayvonte Rice (Champaign Centennial), Dwayne Evans (Neuqua Valley) and Jordan Threloff (DeKalb). |
