Head coach Dedrick Shannon has the Moraine Valley Community College basketball program soaring. On the heels of a stellar 2008-09 campaign, Moraine Valley will head into the coming season loaded with talent, and in position to make another big run next March when tournament time again rolls around.

Last season, Moraine Valley finished off the year with a 28-5 record while holding down the #12 spot in the NJCAA Division II rankings. Sparked by point guard Marcale Marshall (Rich South), the team won the conference title, and advanced all the way to the Regional final in the NJCAA National Tournament.

This year, Moraine Valley may well have even more talent assembled. 6'7" Miami, Ohio transfer Dwight McCombs (Chicago Whitney Young) figures to rank among the top post prospects in junior college basketball, and will anchor the Moraine Valley frontcourt.

Krystopher Randolph (Chicago Brother Rice), a 6'0" guard, returns to anchor the backcourt. Last year, as a freshman, Randolph led the team with a scoring average of better than 18 points per game. The inside-outside duo of McCombs/Randolph could be special.

Kodahmus Llongbey (Richards) and Kaleb Watts (Rich South) both also return, and figure to add a veteran prescence to a team that has tremendous amount of freshman talent coming in.

6'5" Kyler Market (Willowbrook), 6-4 Jeff Triezenberg (Andrew) and point guard Marcus Cocroft (West Aurora) are all expected to step in, and make immediate contributions as freshmen.

Head coach Dedrick Shannon notes that he is looking forward to the coming season with the talent that has been assembled, and will have his team playing up-tempo basketball, and pressure the basketball defensively like never before.

Shannon calls the Moraine Valley program a "Diamond in the Rough", as the school features a great campus, and that the basketball team gets great support from Athletic Director Bill Finn, who was a legendary basketball coach in his own right with better than 500 coaching victories.

McCombs, Randolph and a great deal of the talent from Moraine Valley are expected to compete at the Midwest Juco Expososure SuperStar Showcase July 14th in Merrillville, Indiana.
