Former Chicago Marshall star Patrick Beverley was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the #42 overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft. Los Angeles then traded Beverley's draft rights to the Miami Heat.

Beverley, a 6'1" guard, starred during his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Arkansas ahead of playing last year in the Ukraine for BC Dnipro. Beverley averaged nearly 17 points per game for BC Dnipro last season.

Beverley becomes the second player from the Illinois Class of 2006 to be drafted into the NBA. Last year, JaValle McGee (Chicago Hales Franciscan) of Nevada was drafted in the first round by the Washington Wizards.
