Phillip "Mickey" Perry of Proviso East High School, a University of Wisconsin recruit, brings the fifth installment of his player diary to ChicagoHoops.com. Phillip ranks as one of the top Class of 2005 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois, and will bring us a special look inside his recruitment, and his life on and off of the basketball court.

What's up everybody! It has been a while since I have put out a diary, so I thought I would give everyone an update on how I am doing. I had no idea how many people read Player Diaries until I started writing one. The feedback has been great. I have even had people come up to me, with a printed out copy of my diary, and ask me to autograph it. That is pretty cool.

I verballed to Wisconsin when I went down for an Unofficial Visit over the summer. Last weekend, I took my Official Visit to the campus of the University of Wisconsin. It was really great! I had a lot of family members with me, and they treated me, and my family very, very well.

The Wisconsin football team is undefeated, and ranked #5 in the country. We went to the Wisconsin vs Northwestern game. I was blown away by the fan support! All you could see was a sea of red. All I can say is that it is good to be a Badger!

I got a chance to hang out with a lot of guys on the team, including the Illinois guys DeAaron Williams (Limestone) and Alando Tucker (Lockport). I also spent time with Mike Wilkinson, who was really cool, and Brian Butch.

I am extremely excited about the upcoming high school season with Proviso East. I love it every time I hit the floor with my teammates. My backcourt mate Jeremiah Wise just committed to Indiana State. Watch out for Chris Fuqua. He is on a mission right now! We have some really big games and tournaments this year. In addition to a tough conference slate, we play at the Schaumburg Thanksgiving Tournament, the Proviso East Holiday Tournament, and we also have a big game against Tyrone Kent, Sherron Collins and Chicago Crane on December 11 at UIC.

I am playing in a Fall League right now, and I am the leading scorer at about 30 points per game. However, I am still focusing on everything, including my passing, defense and finishing skills. I am still looking to get stronger, and I have been doing a lot of resistance training, which has really helped.

That's all for now, but I would like to recognize a few people. Mom, I love you! I would also like to give out a mention to my sister and brother, my cousin Tyrone (We are praying for you!), my Grandmother, my Auntie Jean, the whole Lawrence family, the entire Proviso East team, and to all of our fans at Proviso East.

Thank you,

Phillip Perry
