Class of 2010 Thornton star Reggie Smith, a standout both on the court, and in the classroom, is enjoying a strong spring on the travel team circuit playing up an age division with the 17-U Mac Irvin Fire. Smith ranks as one of the top 2010 prospects in the state of Illinois.

Smith, a 5-11 guard, brings both superb athleticism and versatility to the table as a basketball player. A warrior on both ends of the floor, Smith sets the tone, and fills whatever role is needed as the starting point guard for head coach Nick Irvin and the Fire.

Smith told ChicagoHoops.com that playing up an age division with the 17-U Fire has been a great experience. He notes that you always see good opponents at the 17-U level, and with the higher level of competition he must work a lot harder to meet the challenge.

Smith is also getting it done in the classroom where he is sporting a 3.7 grade point average. Smith said, "I got a "C" on my last report card, and I got in trouble."

This coming high school season, Smith will again lead a Thornton team that figures to be among the best in the state of Illinois regardless of class affiliation. Thornton brings back pretty much everyone from a year ago including Smith, Jay Parker and Jamal Gray.

Smith, and his Mac Irvin Fire teammates will be in action again this weekend at the Cactus Classic in Arizona.
