Player Diary: Sherron Collins of Chicago Crane High School
Sherron Collins (Chicago Crane High School) Brian Stinnette Special To ChicagoHoops.com October 15, 2004 Email Questions/Comments To brian@chicagohoops.com Sherron Collins of Chicago Crane High School, a basketball, baseball and football star, takes us along for a special look inside his life both on and off the basketball court. Sherron ranks as one of the top Class of 2006 point guards in the United States. What's up everybody! This is Sherron Collins of Chicago Crane High School, and this is the first installment of my Player Diary for ChicagoHoops.com. Right now, I am playing on the football team at Crane. I play wide receiver on offense, and free safety on defense. Things are going real well for me on the football field. Thus far, I am having a pretty good season. Earlier this year, I broke the Chicago Public League record for single-game receiving yardage with 250 yards against Carver. I still work on my basketball game whenever I get a chance, which is usually on the weekend. Right now, my handle on the basketball is the strongest part of my game. When I workout, I spend a lot of time working on my jump shot. I am already pretty strong, but it is still mandatory that I get in the weightroom and hit the weights. The Crane basketball team should be real, real nice this year. We have a chance to do some things, and to make a real strong run downstate. In addition to myself, we have Tyrone Kent, Darrius Walton, Bobby Fisher and several other players returning from last year. Tyrone is one of the best players in the state. Last year, Darrius played, but actually was injured, he is 100% healthy now, and that will make a real big difference for us this year. Look out for us, we are going to do a lot of damage this year! In addition to basketball and football, I also play on the Crane baseball team. I am being recruited in all three sports. I am of course going to play basketball in college, and I will decide later about baseball or football. My basketball coach, Anthony Longstreet, is handling all of my recruiting. I have been very fortunate to have played with, and against some great players. Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon), Chris Singletary (Chicago Farragut) and Jon Scheyer (Glenbrook North) are some of the best players that I have competed against. I have also been lucky enough to have spent a good deal of time playing with former Crane, and current Georgia Tech star Will Bynum. Lorenzo Thompson, Tino Valencia, Carl Marshall, Tremel Gilot and Jamale Tidwell, the guys who I played with at Crane during my freshman year, are all like big brothers to me. That's all for now, but before I go, I would like to give out a special shout to my girlfriend, Antionette Perkins. Until Next Time, Sherron Collins Chicago Crane High School |
