Champions! The Mac Irvin Fire Defeats The Spiece Indy Heat To Win The 2008 Bill Hensley Memorial Spiece Run N' Slam Tournament
Seton Academy star Tony Nixon led the way as the Mac Irvin Fire pulled together as a team, and rallied late to defeat DeShaun Thomas, and the Spiece Indy Heat to win the highly prestigious 2008 Bill Hensley Memorial Spiece Run N' Slam Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The Spiece Indy Heat, which features a roster of players headlined by 6-7 Class of 2010 star DeShaun Thomas, Indiana State-bound R.J. Mahurin and 6-7 Donnie Hale led 71-70 with about a minute to play before the Mac Irvin Fire machine rallied to take a 74-71 lead, and then withstood a pair of three-point shot attempts to hold on for the victory.
Class of 2009 star Tony Nixon (Seton Academy) came up with a huge effort in the title game, and sparked the Fire to victory. Jon Mills (Chicago North Lawndale) once again came up huge in the title game with his rebounding, and Terry Johnson (Chicago St. Rita) was also clutch in helping to lead the Fire to the title.
Reggie Smith (Thornton), Mike Shaw (Chicago De La Salle), Stan Brown (Chicago Whitney Young), Nick Waddell (Chicago Englewood), Derek Needham (Chicago De La Salle) and Malcolm Griffin (Chicago Hyde Park) also made major contributions for the Fire throughout the weekend.
The Fire knocked off the Michigan Mustangs, Grand Rapids Storm, the Iowa Barnstormers and Spiece Mo/Kan ahead of defeating the Spiece Indy Heat for the championship.
