Class of 2008 Stevenson High School basketball star Kevin Stineman of the Rising Stars has given a verbal commitment to play his college basketball for head coach Lennox Forrester, and the University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Stineman ranks as one of the top Class of 2008 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Stineman, a 6-0 point guard, is a tough and hardnosed competitor who was one of the catalysts of Stevenson's run downstate last year in the Class AA state tournament. Mike Weinstein of Rising Stars describes Stineman as a team-first competitor who has an uncanny knack for getting in and out of the lane to set up his teammates for easy buckets.

Stineman gave his commitment yesterday evening while on an official visit to the SIU-E campus. He joins a recruiting class that already includes 6-3 Bloomington Central Catholic star Aaron Garriot. Garriot competed on the travel team circuit with Team Illinois.

The Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville program currently competes at the Division II level, but will become a Division I program beginning with the 2008-09 season.

Stineman is the fifth member of this year's 17-U Rising Stars team to make a collegiate commitment joining Cully Payne (DePaul), Peter Boehm (Harvard), Chris Wroblewski (Cornell) John Bagge (Hillsdale). Jack Boehm has committed to play baseball for Bucknell.
