Head coach Ricardo Patton, Dennis Gates have Northern Illinois University have scored a major recruiting coup, and have picked up a verbal commitment from Class of 2009 Seton Academy star Tony Nixon of the Mac Irvin Fire.

Nixon, a 6'4" wing, is coming off of an incredible run on the travel team circuit with the Mac Irvin Fire. He is a strong and athletic player who plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor.

Nixon is most known for his ability to knock down shots both with great range and accuracy. He was superb throughout the spring and summer, and broke open a number of contests with his long range marksmanship.

Renee Nixon, the mother of Tony Nixon said, "Brian, it is done. Tony verballed to Northern Illinois this morning!"

Seton Academy head coach Ken Stevenson also confirmed that Nixon gave a verbal commitment to Northern Illinois while on an official visit to the school today.

Nixon's relationship with Head coach Ricardo Patton, Associate head coach Dennis Gates and the entire coaching staff at Northern Illinois played a major role in Nixon opting to verbal to NIU over scholarship offers from better than 20 other schools.

Nixon is a huge recruiting coup for Northern Illinois as he figures to be an immediate impact player, and is the type of signature recruit that prospects from the talent-rich Illinois Classes of 2010 and 2011 will want to follow.

This coming high school season, Nixon is set to team with D.J. Cooper, Corbin Thomas, Jordan Walker, Kenny Stevenson, Chris Oliviera and Khameron Harper on a Seton Academy team that figures to be among the top teams in the state of Illinois.
