Fresh off of a dynamic run on the travel team circuit with the Mac Irvin Fire, Class of 2009 Seton Academy star Tony Nixon is very much looking forward to the upcoming high school season. Nixon rates as one of the top 2009 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Nixon, a 6'4" shooting guard, is a big time shooter who drops shots with both range and accuracy. Nixon dazzled college coaches all spring and summer with his long range shooting clinics on the travel team circuit with the Mac Irvin Fire. Nixon's efforts included a 10 three-point basket performance in a game at the Desert Duel Memorial Classic in Arizona.

When asked about the upcoming high school season, Nixon said, "I can't wait." Under the direction of head coach Ken Stevenson, Seton Academy figures to rank among the top teams in the state of Illinois this season with a high-powered lineup that is expected to include Nixon, 5'10" point guard D.J. Cooper, 6'7" forward Jordan Walker, 6'6" power forward Corbin Thomas, 6'1" Kenny Stevenson and 6'2" Khameron Harper.

Yesterday afternoon, a strong contingent of college coaches were on hand to take in an open gym session at Seton Academy. Northern Illinois head coach Ricardo Patton, Associate head coach Dennis Gates and assistant coach Sundance Wilks were all in attendance. Drake, Gonzaga, Kent State head coach Geno Ford, Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall, Loyola head coach Jim Whitesell, Ohio head coach John Groce, and Eastern Illinois were all in attendance to check out the vast array of talent at Seton.

In terms of recruiting, Nixon has garnered an impressive list of scholarship offers that now features 20+ schools. He notes that he is soon to narrow the process, and cites academics, relationship with the coaching staff, and playing time among the factors that will impact his decision.

Nixon, and his Seton Academy teammates, will get tested right out of the gate in November at the McGovern Classic. They will also be back at the Big Dipper Holiday Basketball Tournament in December, and will see great competition once again in Catholic League play.
