Van Vleet ranks as one of the top Class of 2012 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois. Van Vleet, a 5'11" point guard, excels with the basketball in his hands, and is as good of a decision-maker as any player in the state of Illinois regardless of class. Van Vleet combines a strong handle with excellent floor vision and passing skills, and drops shots with range out beyond the three-point arc. Van Vleet was very pleased with the offer from Southern Illinois. “It was cool to get the offer from SIU. I think it means that my play is speaking for itself now. I think more schools will start stepping out now, and give me a look,” said Van Vleet, who also noted that Ohio, Kent State, Drake, Detroit, Northern Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, and Boise State are the schools that seem the most serious currently.
