Rising Stars Yellow Team Knocks Off The Arkansas Wings To Win The 16-U Division II AAU National Championship In Little Rock, Arkansas
Class of 2010 Waukegan star Mike Springs came up huge as the Rising Stars Yellow team defeated the Arkansas Wings 74-63 to win the 16-U Division II AAU National Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Rising Stars Yellow team appeared to be in control of the championship game before a furious rally by the Wings cut their lead to just one point early in the fourth quarter. However, Springs keyed a run that provided the Yellow team with a 65-56 lead with just under five minutes to play, and they never looked back.
Springs finished with a team-high 17 points. Mitch Hopfinger (Lake Forest) added 16 points including a pair of three-pointers. Craig Burton (Warren Township) chipped in 13 points, Mike Simpson (North Chicago) had 11 points and Steven Conner (North Chicago) had 8 points in the title game for the winners.
The Rising Stars Yellow team defeated Massachusetts Premier to advance to the title game, and knocked off Kazoo Blues in the quarterfinals. The team knocked off the Staten Island Stingrays Blue, Memphis Mustangs and Camp Unity to complete pool play with a perfect 3-0 record.
