Class of 2011 Plainfield Central star Derrick Marks of Old Gold has added a scholarship offer from Northeastern University, and will take an official visit to Southern Illinois University this weekend as he continues to wind his way through the recruiting process.

Northeastern offered a scholarship during an in-home visit earlier this week. “They came to my house Coach Dean and Coach Coen and they are both really down to earth guys. If I were to choose that school I would get a lot of minutes, and it would be my team to lead right off the bat. They have also had three previous guards that went on and played professionally. Coach Coen believes that I’m the next player to add to that list. They’re in a really marketable city in Boston, so that wouldn’t be a bad place for a new home for the next four years. So we’ll just see how everything goes,” said Marks.

Boise State and Western Michigan also have plenty of playing time to offer as a freshman. “Boise State and Western Michigan are also in the same situation. They both said I’ll get a lot of playing time as a freshman and it’ll be my team to lead.” Colorado State did an in-home visit with Marks yesterday.

Marks will take an official visit to Southern Illinois this weekend. “I’m going to play with their players and get more of a feel for the players and coaches. I’m looking forward to seeing the campus, and just excited to be going down there for a visit and go from there,” said Marks.
