Here is an early look at the leading candidates to bring home the 2005 Mr. Basketball award. 6-8 Julian Wright (Homewood-Flossmoor) and 6-5 Jon Scheyer (Glenbrook North), a pair of Illinois Warriors, headline the list of contenders.

1. Julian Wright
Class of 2005
6-8 Guard/Forward
Homewood-Flossmoor
The top Class of 2005 prospect in the state of Illinois. Long, athletic and highly versatile. Should really get a chance to open things up offensively as a senior. An “electric” player on the basketball court. H-F is still a threat with Wright teaming with Freddie Barnes and D.J. Posley to make another run at the state title.

2. Jon Scheyer
Class of 2006
6-5 Guard
Glenbrook North
The top Class of 2006 prospect in the state of Illinois. Glenbrook North will likely be ranked among the preseason Top 5 teams in the state Zach Kelly and Sean Wallis giving Scheyer support. Scheyer is an offensive machine with incredible court sense.

3. Bobby Frasor
Class of 2005
6-3 Point Guard
Chicago Brother Rice
Tremendous all-around skill package. An outstanding shooter who can also get to the basket with ease. Frasor is a big time basketball talent. Brother Rice, one of the best coached teams in Illinois, is always a threat to make a strong tournament run.

4. Kevin Lisch
Class of 2005
6-2 Guard
Belleville Althoff
A warrior on the basketball court. Lisch is a superb shooter who really gets after it on both ends of the floor. Althoff is a legitimate state title contender. The only question is whether or not they will be a Class AA, or Class A team in 2004-05.

5. Jerel McNeal
Class of 2005
6-3 Shooting Guard
Hillcrest
A true force on both ends of the floor. McNeal has the heart of a champion, and the skills to match. Hillcrest brings everybody back, and McNeal’s Mr. Basketball credentials will soar if he gets a state title under his belt.

6. Nate Minnoy
Class of 2005
6-3 Small Forward
Undecided
A player with the ability to completely dominate a game offensively. A warrior on the offensive glass. Minnoy is one of a handful of players capable of putting a team on his back, and leading them to victory. Whoever Minnoy plays for will be a team to contend with.
