Chicago Simeon’s Anthony Newell has given a verbal commitment to play collegiately for the Ball State Cardinals. Newell ranks among the top Class of 2004 basketball prospects in both the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois.

Newell, a 6-6 guard/forward, is long, rangy, active and athletic on the basketball court. Newell brings a soft touch on his jumper, and range out beyond the three-point arc. Newell has a decent handle, and is a very active rebounder and shot blocker. He averaged better than 18 points, and nearly 10 boards per contest this past season.

He will join a Ball State team that will graduate former Chicago Simeon star Cameron Echols. However, the Cardinals will return their leader scorer, and 2003-04 MVP Dennis Trammell, a former star at Chicago Westinghouse.
