Last year, we told you that Class of 2006 prospect Jeremy Nash (Chicago Marist) was going to be a stud. A new name to add to the list of studs from the Class of 2006 is 6-10 center Brian Carlwell of Proviso East.

Carlwell is the brother of Class of 2003 Proviso East standout Ronnie Carlwell of Illinois State. Already 6-10, Carlwell brings tremendous physical gifts to the basketball court. Carlwell has arms down to his ankles, and can really run the floor. He has a chance to develop into a big time defensive force, and a star-caliber shot blocker. He is currently #7 on the ChicagoHoops.com rankings of top Class of 2006 prospects, but he is rising fast, and could crack the Top 5 in the very near future.

Carlwell is not yet a finished product. He is still polishing his skills, particularly on offense. However, he has high major written all over him! During the past year, Carlwell’s on court intensity, and his ability to finish around the basket have improved considerably. Over the next two years, Carlwell should develop into an elite post talent.

Carlwell competes on the AAU circuit with Ferrari Basketball’s 16-U squad. Jeremy Nash (Chicago Marist) and Jerome Randle (Chicago Hales Franciscan) are among his AAU teammates. Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon) primarily competes with Ferrari’s 15-U squad, but does at times play up with the 16-U team.

Proviso East has an extremely strong high school basketball tradition. Alumni of the school include Dee Brown (Illinois), Shannon Brown (Michigan State), Charles Richardson (Nebraska), Michael Finley (Dallas Mavericks), Steve Hunter (Orlando Magic), Doc Rivers, Sherrell Ford and Donnie Boyce just to name a few.
