Candace Parker of Naperville Central, the #1 high school girls player in the United States, will play college basketball for the University of Tennessee. Parker, who was named Illinois Ms. Basketball as a sophomore and a junior, picked Tennessee over DePaul, Duke, Maryland and Texas.

Parker, a 6-3 forward, is currently rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Last year, as a junior, Parker averaged 24.3 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists en route to being named National Player of the Year by USA Today, and leading Naperville Central to the Illinois Class AA state championship.

Tennessee, which is coached by Pat Head-Summit, ranks as one of the strongest womens basketball programs in the country. Parker’s brother, Anthony, was a star at Bradley before being a first round pick by the New Jersey Nets in the 1997 NBA draft.
