Former Marian Catholic star Cedrick Middleton has given the University of Akron an oral commitment to play basketball. Middleton played this past season for prep school power Brewster Academy.
A key factor in his decision was his familiarity with several freshman players on the Akron team who played AAU and high school basketball with Lebron James. Middleton had also played AAU ball 2 summers ago with Lebron James’ North East
Ohio Shooting Stars team.
Middleton will be given the opportunity to step in and play right away for Akron, which competes in the Mid-American basketball conference.
This past season at Brewster Academy, Middleton helped to led his team to a 26-3 overall record and 2nd place finish in the tough Class A New England Prep School Athletic Conference, where he scored 32 points in the championship game. He finished the season with a 17.5 ppg scoring average.
Middleton is the third member of his family to play in the Mid-American Conference. Middleton’s oldest brother, Erick, graduated from a MAC school (Eastern Michigan) in 2003, after a stellar career as a defensive back with the football team. His older
brother, Roderick, has completed his sophomore season as a starting guard for
another MAC school, the University of Buffalo.
