Chicago, IL — The Integrity Group has announced the official pairings for next year’s McDonalds doubleheader “showdown” — one of the most highly anticipated events of the Boys’ High School Basketball season. The date is set for Saturday, February 12, 2005, and the location will once again be Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena, in Evanston, IL.
In Game 1 (6:15), it’s Westchester-St. Joseph (23-6) vs. Chicago-Brother Rice (26-2). The Chargers, making their first showdown appearance, are the East Suburban Catholic Conference champions. They return several starters, and will be led by G Tony Freeman (6’1″, 165 lbs.), who is one of the top juniors in the state. The Crusaders, who won their seventh Catholic League title in the last ten years, and eighth straight Regional crown, return PG Bobby Frasor (6’2″, 175 lbs.), a Top-5 Junior.
Game 2 (8:00) features two teams, Milwaukee-Vincent (23-3) and Glenbrook North (25-4), who figure to be among the top teams in the Midwest next season. The Vikings, winners of five WI state championships since 1996, should be nationally ranked. They are led by F Marcus Landry (6’6″, 200 lbs.), one of the top-rated players in the nation. The Spartans, winners of three straight Central Suburban North titles, return virtually their entire team, and are led by Super-Sophomore G Jonathan Scheyer (65, 170 lbs., and 25.5 ppg.), one of the top players in his class nationally.
