Here is a look at some of the returning players expected to be among the very best in the Chicago Public League in 2003-04.


Jamarcus Ellis – Westinghouse
Class of 2004
6-4 Shooting Guard
Will be the best player in the Public League next year. 21 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists per game in 2002-03. Excellent defender. One of the best shot blocking guards in the country. Should challenge Shaun Livingston and Shaun Pruitt for best player in the state next year.

DeAndre Thomas – Westinghouse
Class of 2005
6-7 Power Forward
True post player. Very good around the basket. Will team with Jamarcus Ellis to form one of best duos in the state of Illinois.

Jeremy Pargo – Robeson
Class of 2005
6-2 Shooting Guard
Ranks with Angel Santiago as one of the two best Class of 2005 prospects in the city of Chicago. Tremendous offensive talent. Anchors a young team that is poised to be one the best in the city for the next couple of years.

Ollie Bailey – Farragut
Class of 2004
6-7 Power Forward
Aggressive warrior inside. One of the best rebounders in the city. Will anchor the frontline of a Farragut team talented enough to make a strong run downstate in 2003-04.

Christopher Singletary – Farragut
Class of 2006
6-2 Shooting Guard
A young Quentin Richardson? Strong and versatile. Became Farragut’s top offensive option as a freshman. On pace to become a great player.

Angel Santiago – Von Steuben
Class of 2005
6-1 Point Guard
Ranks with Jeremy Pargo as one of the two best Class of 2005 prospects in the city of Chicago. Excellent all-around player. Led team in scoring as a sophomore.

Ryne Hamblet – Von Steuben
Class of 2004
6-5 Small Forward
Long and versatile. Nice all-around skill package. Will be a key component to a deep and talented Von Steuben team fully capable of making strong run downstate in 2003-04.

Brandon Ewing – Julian
Class of 2005
6-2 Point Guard
Steady and consistent. Will lead a Julian team that is expected to be one of the best in the city in 2003-04.

Calvin Brock – Simeon
Class of 2004
6-5 Small Forward
Very nice junior season. In position to make a name for himself in 2003-04.

Sherron Collins – Crane
Class of 2006
5-10 Point Guard
Showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman. Returns to lead a Crane team that graduated all five starters.

Stephon Hannah – Hyde Park
Class of 2004
6-0 Point Guard
More of a scoring guard than a true point. Should rank with the highest scorers in the city in 2003-04.

Aramis Brown – Bogan
Class of 2004
6-2 Shooting Guard
Teams with Deverick Gee to form one of the highest scoring offensive duos in the state of Illinois.

Teams with Aramis Brown to form one of the highest scoring offensive duos in the state of Illinois.

Jermiah Bryant – Fenger
Class of 2005
6-7 Power Forward
Teams with Clarence Holloway to form a bruising inside tandem. Should be ready to begin asserting himself as one of the better post prospects in the city of Chicago.

Class of 2005
6-11 Center
Teams with Jermiah Bryant to form a bruising inside tandem. Missed a good chunk of 2002-03 with an injury. Still raw, but an imposing interior presence nonetheless.

Laird Walker – Whitney Young
Class of 2004
6-6 Forward
Pressed into action after Dwayne Curtis and Norman Winn went down to injury. Rapidly improving and athletic. A battler on the glass. In position to blossom for Whitney Young next year when he becomes one of the Dolphins primary offensive weapons.
