Former West Aurora star Dameon Mason, now a freshman at Marquette, is now starting and making an impact for the Marquette Golden Eagles. Mason ranked among the top Class of 2003 basketball prospects in Illinois a year ago.
Mason, a 6-5 shooting guard, is averaging 7.5 points per game, and connecting on better than 46% of his field goal attempts. Mason scored a career high 17 points in his first career start last week against Southern Mississippi. He tallied 16 points last night in his second start against Charlotte.
As a high school senior, Mason averaged 21 points per game en route to finishing second to Shannon Brown in balloting for Illinois Mr. Basketball. Mason’s high school teammates included current West Aurora stars Justin Cerasoli, who has signed with Seton Hall, and Shaun Pruitt, who has signed with Illinois.
Marquette has a record of 11-5 to date.
