Derrick Rose (Chicago Simeon) and the Ferrari 15-U AAU team were highly impressive over the weekend at the 15-U Illinois State AAU Tournament. Rose, the #1 Class of 2007 prospect in the state of Illinois continues to be amazing on the basketball court.

Led by Derrick Rose, the Ferrari 15-U squad rolled to six victories, including a thrilling one-point win over the Illinois Warriors in the semifinals. Rose continues to display incredible skills, and court instincts on the floor. Rose, a 6-2 point guard, combines superb quickness with a super-tight handle that allows him to get to the rim pretty much at will. Once there, he typically finishes with a bucket, and a free throw.

Rose has the entire package. He is an incredible leaper, with a great sense of timing that leaves opponents at his mercy when he sets up to block shots. Rose has a soft touch on his jumper with range that extends out to the three-point arc. In addition, he also is quite good at using the glass to bank in short jumpers in traffic. Rose is always under control on the floor. He plays with a quiet sense of confidence. He never shows up an opponent, even after he laid down a pair of “LeBron James” style dunks that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The Ferrari team isn’t just about Rose. The deep and talented squad also features the guard tandem of Colby Johnson (Thornwood) and Trey Blue (Thornwood). Johnson and Blue both played up on the varsity as freshmen. In addition, the team also features 6-4 enforcer Tim Flowers (Chicago Simeon), 6-8 post Diante Gaskew (Chicago Leo) and 6-7 Kevin Johnson (Chicago Whitney Young). Also on the roster are Brandon Hall (Chicago Whitney Young), Randall Hampton (Chicago Simeon), Antonio Topps (Chicago Leo), Ryan Allen (Chicago Whitney Young) and Dante Thompson (Bremen). You will likely hear a lot about all of these young men over the next 3 years.
