Class of 2008 Prospect Watch: DeShawn Dockery Is On The Way
Brian Stinnette April 6, 2004 Email Questions/Comments To [email protected] DeShawn Dockery of Heritage Middle School is on the way! Dockery, who is the first cousin of former former Chicago Julian, and current Duke star Sean Dockery, is one of the elite Class of 2008 prospects in the state of Illinois. Dockery is the ultimate point guard. He does it all! Dockery combines a strong handle with great court sense and vision. He is a superb floor leader who always looks for opportunities to get his teammates involved. At 5-1, Dockery many times is the smallest player on the court, but when the ball goes up, he becomes “the man”. Doctors say Dockery still has a serious growth spurt left, so he may not be the smallest man on the court much longer. However, Dockery makes up for anything that he is lacking in size with his work ethic. Dockery works on his game and conditioning every day! Dockery’s daily workout routine includes running 3 miles, jumping rope and doing push-ups. Each and every day Dockery goes into the gym, and must make 200 jump shots before going home. This past weekend, Dockery, who is 13-years old, more than held his own while playing in the 16-U state AAU tournament in Rockford. Last week, Dockery was MVP on the team in a junior high all-star game at Rich South, after he took over late in the game with his passing, and four three-point bombs. Earlier, Dockery “tore up the gym” in the Adidas Top 60 Shootout in Greensboro, North Carolina en route to making the all-star team. Keep an eye out for DeShawn Dockery, he will be a player you will hear a lot from over the next four years. |
