Southeastern Illinois Community College star Donta Smith, who had signed with the University of Louisville, has made himself eligible for the NBA draft. Smith ranks among the top Junior College players in the United States.
Smith, a 6-7 guard/forward, averaged better than 25 points per game this past season. He brings size, skill and the wingspan of a 7-footer to the basketball court.
According to published reports, Smith’s decision to declare for the draft caught Louisville head coach Rick Pitino by surprise. Pitino does not feel that Smith is ready for the NBA. Smith, has yet to sign with an agent, so he could still go to college. However, it appears that Smith has no intention of pulling out. Smith, joins Sebastian Telfair as Louisville recruits who have declared for the NBA draft.
