Depaul has recently been delt another blow to it’s surprising resurgence under head coach Dave Leitao. Prized recruit Dorrell Wright told sources that he would re-evaluate his decision on going to Depaul if Leito leaves.
“Coach Leitao is 90 percent of the reason I chose DePaul,” Wright told the press Tuesday night. Wright, who is considered by many scouting agencies as one of the top prep stars in America could opt for the NBA. The Californian averaged close to 30 points and 13 rebounds a game.
Leitao, is being wooed by St. Johns (New York) to bring their program back to prominence, and Georgetown has also express interest in the coach. There is no clear cut answer on whether Leitao, who has 3 years remaining on a contract that reportedly pays him $355,000 a year is leaving or not. DePaul athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto said they haven’t talked about restructuring Leitao’s contract.
Personal business or not, the loss a Leitao could very well mean the loss of an elite recruit, and could deal a big blow to future recruiting. The days of Blue Demon domination have hit a storm. Let’s hope this on blows over quickly. Reporting on behalf of ChicagoHoops.com, I’m the Real Brain.
