Echols Now The Center Of Ball State’s Interior Game

December 2, 2002

Chicago Simeon product Cameron Echols is now the center of Ball State’s inside game due to the season ending injury suffered by Theron Smith.

Smith, who initially entered the NBA draft last year, has decided to sit out this season because of lingering tendonitis in his knees. Smith led Ball State in both scoring and rebounding last year.

Echols, a 6’8 junior power forward, is in his first year at Ball State after transferring in from Chicago’s Kennedy-King junior college. Echols had a monster season at Kennedy-King last year averaging 18 points and 15 rebounds per contest.

Thus far, Echols appears up to the challenge of providing Ball State with a prescence on the interior. In his first game without Theron Smith in the lineup, Echols scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 71-45 loss to Butler.
