Ellis Could Catch Livingston As Top 2004 Prospect
Brian Stinnette January 27, 2003 Chicago Westinghouse shooting guard Jamarcus Ellis could ultimately catch Peoria Central’s Shaun Livingston as the top 2004 basketball prospect in the state of Illinois. Although his team has struggled, Ellis, the lone returning starter from last year’s state champion, has been outstanding this year. The 6’4 junior is already the most complete player in the state. The highly versatile Ellis has an excellent handle, can shoot with range and is tenacious on defense. He is one of the best shot blocking guards in the country. Ellis currently boasts averages of 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game. Last summer, Livingston, established himself as one the top 2004 prospects in the country. The 6’7 point guard is a superb passer who is at his best in transition. Livingston has been solid this year, but Ellis has closed the gap. Ellis’ passing skills are as good, and his shooting range is better. Ellis at times plays out of control. When his team is behind he tends to try and do too much. However, if Ellis maintains focus, he could unseat Livingston from the top spot with a strong summer. |
