Indiana Looking To Recruit State Of Illinois

Brian Stinnette
January 26, 2003

The Indiana Hoosiers don’t currently have any players from the state of Illinois on their roster. However, head coach Mike Davis is actively looking to change that in the near future.

West Aurora power forward Shaun Pruitt and Chicago Westinghouse shooting guard Jamarcus Ellis are both on the Indiana radar screen. Ellis ranks #2, and Pruitt #3 on the Chicago Hoops Class of 2004 top Illinois prospects list.

Pruitt fits Indiana’s need to add size inside. The 6’8 lefty can also step out and shoot with range. Pruitt has battled injuries during both his sophomore and junior seasons. However, when healthy he has been outstanding. Marquette, Xavier and Iowa are also pursuing Pruitt.

The 6’4 Ellis has seen his stock soar nationally with a strong junior campaign. Ellis does it all on both ends of the floor. He is the most complete player in the state of Illinois. Ellis can comfortably play the 1, 2 or 3 spots on the floor. Kentucky and Louisville are among the list of schools also showing strong interest in Ellis.

Indiana showed more than a passing interest in Chicago Crane power forward Lorenzo Thompson before he verballed to DePaul. They also took a shot at Proviso East’s Shannon Brown who signed with Michigan State. Last year, Indiana recruited Chicago Whitney Young power forward Marcus White. White is currently a freshman at Connecticut.

Next on Indiana’s list may well be 6’7 sophomore forward Julian Wright of Homewood-Flossmor. The do-it-all Wright currently ranks as the #1 2005 prospect in the state of Illinois.
