Both Meanstreets and the Illinois Wolves were highly impressive at prestigious Kingwood Classic in Houston, Texas. Also competing were the Illinois Warriors, Illinois Fire, Old Gold and Team Illinois.

Meanstreets and the Illinois Wolves both advanced to the tournament semifinals. Had the two teams been able to pull out their semifinal contests, they would have met for the Championship. Meanstreets blitzed through all-comers before losing in the semifinals on a free throw with two seconds remaining. Meanwhile Bobby Frasor (Chicago Brother Rice) solidified his position as an elite prospect with stellar play throughout the tournament.

Jerel McNeal (Hillcrest), Maurice Acker (Hillcrest) and Brandon Ewing (Chicago Julian) led a solid team effort by Meanstreets. At times, McNeal dominated the action on both ends of the floor. Acker had college coaches buzzing with his “pure” point guard skills, and his ability to drop threes. Ewing, who has been strong all spring, went so far as to drop 30 points on an opponent during the tournament.

Next weekend, Meanstreets will be heading to Minnesota, while the Illinois Warriors, Illinois Fire, Ferrari and Full Package will be heading to the Spiece Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
